SEASON 4 | Episode 3 | How Goal Setting Impacts Finding a Job

Looking for your dream job? One of the keys to a successful job search is finding your ideal companies. In today’s episode, we focus on how to identify those companies, and how it translates into stronger resumes, first impressions, and interviews.

We will break down Steps 2 & 3 from the first episode.  If you would like to read the 8 Ways to Stand Out at a Career Fair, head here.

In step two, you’ll want to dream big and list out what your ideal career looks like. Consider where you want to live, the markets that are popular in that area, your salary goals, and company culture. Think about the life you want outside of work. Do you want to join co-ed sports leagues, live somewhere that embodies a certain type of culture, be close to friends and family, spend more time outdoors or in the city, or travel?

For step three, research your dream companies. Use the company list provided by your school or career fair to find job opportunities, locations, markets, and specialties. Identify the companies that align with your values and goals. For example, if you want to work with a general contractor in the commercial market, find companies that value community service and have a strong collaborative and friendly culture.

When you find a company that aligns with your values, update your resume based on those values. Pay attention to first impressions and plan out your experience. Find familiar faces and make connections.

By following these steps, you can increase your chances of finding your dream job and landing the position. And don’t forget to jot down the non-negotiables and things that make you incredibly excited for your future career. Keep these takeaways in your tool belt and use them for your next job search.
