Meet Nadean! 🤓 She is a self-professed stormwa Meet Nadean!
🤓 She is a self-professed stormwater nerd!
She started working with stormwater compliance in the Air Force and quickly realized how important stormwater pollution prevention was to the ecosystem.
During her military career, she focused on construction and other civil engineering operations duties.
When she separated from the military, she initially worked as a Geotechnical Engineer (that is a fancy way of saying that she worked in dirt) but found her way back to her true love of stormwater management.
💧 She started up Oya Construction as a way to properly install and maintain stormwater controls on construction sites, reducing the sediment deposition into waterways.
She is passionate about keeping waterways clean and our environment beautiful. Nadean is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Maryland, an Air Force veteran, and is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Curious about what women in different construction Curious about what women in different construction roles are making right now?
I have said it before, and I will say it again, transparency is helpful and researching the value of your role is so important!
Last week we had on the Strategic Director of Virg Last week we had on the Strategic Director of Virginia Housing to talk more about housing policies and affordable housing. When we asked him what the future construction could look like, this was his response. I agree that our tradespeople will have a different set of skills in their back pocket to move forward our industry. What are your thoughts? I am curious to hear how you think our skilled labor workforce will look 10-20-50 years from now!
Did you know? 1. The punch list includes the item Did you know?
1. The punch list includes the items that need to be created or completed prior to turning the project over to a client.
2. The name punch list derived from an old method of tracking these remaining items. Contractors used to punch actual holes into the list to note which items needed to be fixed.
3. Zero Punch List – Refers to the official punch list lead by the architect/owner. Towards the end of the job the client and/or architect will walk with the contractor to inspect the physical project. The goal for most contractors is typically to have little to no items on this list.
4. How to Reach Zero – The contractor starts their own internal punch list, usually referred to as a completion list. The intention of this list is to track work throughout the course of the project and confirm all items have been completed and are of quality work. Target completing as much of this list prior to the punch list walk with the client/architect.
5. According to Autodesk: 44% of GCs use the punch as you go method on at least half of their jobs.
6. According to Autodesk: 70% of GCs use project management software for punching out at least ¼ of their jobs.
One of my favorite phases of a project is the punch list. Much like our guest, Brittany Gentilhomme, Season 4 Episode 12, I also became a go-to person when it came to this phase of the job. Which meant, my teams leaned on me to create systems for managing the lists.
Depending on the project scope, I would either use the Procure Punch List tool, or I used a system I learned from an architect.
How do you manage your punch lists?
Also, if you just need to vent about this phase, the floor is also yours. Haha. >< I totally get the pains that come from this phase of a job!
Tune in to S4E12 to learn how Brittany handles this phase of a job.
